Interesting!

Very interesting!

It does say his father was "indio cacique" and so was his mother, so it is very possible that they were part of the Indian ruling class of Tonala.

Interesting!

it's not the first bizarre thing i found but it's the most intriging though since i thought one had to be 7/8+ spanish descent in order to become a theologian.

a few other bizarre finds i've come accross are:1. a 'mulato esclavo' marrying a spanish woman(can't remember where i found it, but i think it happened during the 1700's. I didn't think a male slave could marry a freed spanish female)
2.A drawing of a lion holding a shield(can't remember where i found it exactly, but i think it may have been in the beginning of soem marriage dispensation collection, just not sure which one)
3. a marriage dispensation simply refering to a common ancestor as 'gachupin europeo' https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18414-94456-29?cc=1874591&wc…

4. a map found within a marriage dispensation collection https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18415-10524-77?cc=1874591&wc…
