Mexico Census Records

Por Jose Aguayo Ortega | 3:28 PM MST, Dom Enero 26, 2014

Does anyone know if there are 17th and 18th century census lists of haciendas in Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, and Jalisco? I have reached a dead end in searching for Aguayos in San Jose de Gracia, Aguascalientes at about 1800. Since some of my ancestors are listed as indios, I thought I may be able to find them listed on haciendo roles, if such a thing exists.

This is a very tricky situation because any line that is not espanol I find will have a good chance of eventually dying out. The records were just not well documented. I have two indio lines and I am fortunate that with one of them to go up to the late 1600s. I have found out, like you said a dead end. It is sad, but we got to just keep trying to do our best to locate any record or piece of documentation we can.

Some parishes have some padrones in that time period. Have you checked Lymann Platt's book on census records? There may be some for the the ones you are looking for.
