I am looking for other people with the surnames of Macias and Guerra with or without documentation to take a Y-DNA 37 marker test in order to find matches. I have learned I descend from Alonso Guerra Valadez the son of Mateo Macías Valadez according to documentation. Y-DNA matches can help us prove lineages.

I descend from Nicolas Alonso Ramirez Macias Valades & Maria Leonor Retamosa via Leonor Vasquez Macias Valades de Retamosa married with Alonso de Alba parents of Juana Bautista de Alba y Retamosa which was married to Santiago Pedrosa, and from Alonso Guerra married with Maria Lopez de Nava parents of Juana Ruiz de Nava and Catalina Lopez de Nava y Guerra. Are these part of the Guerra Valadez you are referring to? and if so, Would you let me know more info as to how to get that DNA test?

Y-DNA tests are for males through paternal lines only and whose surname was
passed from father to son. His surname was passed down from father to son.
He is descended from Mateo Macías Valadez Retamosa a brother of Leonor
Vasquez Macias Valades de Retamosa. Mateo married Catalina López de Nava
the daughter of Alonso Lorenso Guerra and María de Nava. Mateo and Catalina
fathered, among others, Alonso Guerra Valadez who married Inés Rodríguez
Gallardo. Alonso and Inés fathered, among others, Joseph Guerra Gallardo
who married Ana Vazquez de Zermeño y Rodriguez Portugal for which they had
a dispensa de cuarto grado de consanguinidad. They fathered Juan Tadeo
Guerra y Vásquez de Zermeño from whom Hector descends.
I believe your paternal line is from a different surname so if you had a
male relative take a Y-DNA test it would be for that surname and not the
Guerra and Macias Valadez surnames. It would still be great to know the
results of a 37 marker Y-DNA test from one of your male relatives if it is
a surname from what was once Nueva Galicia. You can order the test at

Y-DNA 37 for Surnames Macias
Gary Felix has a webpage with DNA results from different Mexican families, including Guerra and Macías. The results from R. Macías are from a family from Michoacán and they are a 34/37 match to the results of my Navarro family (which according to one source might be from Jalisco). We have Y-DNA 67 results, unfortunately so far they only have the Y-DNA 37 ones, so we can't see if we are a closer match. By comparing with other Navarro results, I have reasons to believe the families might have a 2-marker mismatch rather than the 3-marker mismatch we are getting among individual samples.

By the way, after my previous post, the family of R. Macías (originally from Michoacán) decided refine their sample to 67 markers and some Navarro second cousins of mine also took tests. By comparing all the results, it seems like the two families indeed have just a 2-marker mismatch.
I still have not found any documentation linking this Macías family from Michoacán to my Navarro family from Coahuila (which according to one source may be originally from Jalisco).
